Don't see it as an insult, says Dr M

KUALA LUMPUR: The recent fatwa banning Muslims from practising yoga should not be seen as an insult to other religions, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.

He viewed the fuss over the fatwa as an "unfortunate" event for others who perceived it as a slur of their religions. "We don't eat pork. That doesn't mean I am insulting the Chinese. When Muslims cannot do yoga, it is not because we are insulting the Hindus.

"It is just they (Muslims) should not do it. Whether the Malays follow it is their business. Other devotees should not turn it into a religious issue.

"I myself don't care whether you stand on your head or you stand on your feet. Perhaps by standing on one's head the blood will go there more and you will think more. It is up to you what you think."

Noktah.
